posted Jul 20, 2016, 2:13 PM by LHS XCTrack

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are enjoying your summer!  We’ve had a good turnout at our weekly Captain’s Runs so far, and we’re very excited about all the progress being made.  I just wanted to take a moment to pass along a few items of note:

·         Everyone needs to sign up on the Family ID website prior to the first day of official practice (Monday 8/15).  The website can be accessed through the Athletics page on www.londonderry.org.

·         Everyone also needs to turn in a completed and signed Emergency Card prior to the first day of official practice. The cards can be obtained from the Athletic Office, and I will have some with me at the Captain’s Runs as well.  If necessary, you can also forward me your address and I will mail you one.

·         Our schedule is starting to take shape.  Here are some important dates:

o   Sat. 9/10 - Souhegan Relays

o   Sat. 9/17 - Nashua XC Invitational

o   Sat. 9/24 - Manchester Invitational

o   Sat. 10/15 - Brown Invitational

o   Fri. 10/21 - JV State Meet

o   Sat. 10/22 - Middle School State Meet

o   Sat. 10/29 - Division 1 Meet

o   Nov. 11/5 - Meet of Champions

o   Nov. 11/12 - New England Championship

There will also be a number of Tuesday meets during the season, and we will be looking to return to the Manhattan Invitational in NY this season.  Once those dates and locations are squared away, I will send out a complete schedule.

·         Unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to meet with the incoming 8th graders this spring.  If you know of anyone planning to run, please feel free to forward all of this on to them or give them my contact info.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Matt

Information on Scholarship Program

posted May 4, 2016, 4:26 AM by LHS XCTrack

XC and Track and Field Families,

One of the ways our LHS XC and Track Club supports our student athletes is by offering scholarships to graduating seniors.   We commit to two $400 scholarships each year;  However, thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and members, we have historically been able to provide additional scholarships each year.

The funding for these scholarships is made possible thanks to:

·       the work of our Scholarship Committee soliciting corporate sponsors

·       our membership dues

·       the many volunteers who work at our fundraisers

To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must:

·       (beginning with the 2015-16 school year) be a member of the LHS Cross Country and Track Club in each school year the athlete participates in their sport

·       have participated in a minimum of two years of Cross Country, Indoor Track, or Spring Track.  This may be two seasons in the same sport (e.g. two years of cross country), or one season in two different sports over two different years (e.g. winter track sophomore year and spring track senior year).

·       be participating in Cross Country or Track and Field in their senior year

·       be in good standing academically and going on to an accredited 2- or 4- year college

·       complete the scholarship application available to seniors through Londonderry High School

All currently eligible athletes are listed here, for all class years.  If you have any question about your son’s or daughter’s eligibility, please contact our Scholarship Chair, Laura Keeley, at keeley5@comcast.net

All eligible applicants are then evaluated for scholarship selection based on a point system.   The following points are totaled for each eligible applicant:

·       all points the applicant (and their parent/s) earned by volunteering at Track Club events throughout the applicant’s four years of high school

·       points allocated to the applicant by their coach(es)

After all points are totaled for all eligible applicants, all information is forwarded to an alumni selection committee who makes the final confirmation of scholarship winners.   Scholarship Winners are announced at the Baccalaureate Ceremony the night before Graduation.

If you have any questions on this Scholarship program, please don’t hesitate to contact our Scholarship Chair, Laura Keeley.

Thank you for your continued support of our Student Athletes.

Looking for Gently Used Running Shoes

posted Sep 6, 2015, 7:22 AM by LHS XCTrack

Hi Everyone!

I am collecting used running shoes for donation to the MORE Foundation, a non-profit group that funds farming programs in Africa. MORE is 100% funded from the sale of ‘gently used athletic shoes’. The shoes are sold in major cities in Africa - the vast majority of Africans cannot afford new shoes. MORE uses proceeds from the sale of the shoes to provide training and tools to the poorest rural farmers. Instead of decomposing in landfills, your used athletic shoes can be re-purposed to offset carbon from the atmosphere and regenerate farm land. Additional information is available at MOREFoundationGroup.org

How You Can Help:
Set aside your used - but not abused - running shoes size 6-12. I cannot accept single shoes or heavily stained or ripped shoes. You can bring them to our home mee
ts – look for a large box near the fence by the finish. I can also collect them from your son or daughter at practice after school if that works.  I’m also happy to come and pick them up.

This is a small way we can share our love of running and also make a little difference globally.

I would appreciate your participation.  Thanks!

Hi Cross Country and Track Families,

We will be working at the new Boot Scootin’ Boogie 5K race hosted by Millennium Running  in Londonderry on Sat night 7/25.  Our Track Club will be paid for our time.   These funds will benefit our athletes this  coming year.  There’s a concert before and after the 5K so it should be a fun event to attend right here in Londonderry!
This is a great opportunity for the athletes themselves to volunteer (instead of the parents this time).
Each athlete who volunteers will get a scholarship point.  Scholarship points are accumulated during the athlete’s four years and will go towards the athlete’s eligibility for a scholarship in their senior year.
We need 12 – 16 volunteers for the below 2 different events.   Please use the online signup spreadsheet to sign up or email wasserman4@comcast.net if you have any issues with the spreadsheet link.

·       Post-race water distribution (6-8 people to pass out water to finishers – 6:30-8:00pm)
·       Country Hat Distribution. (6-8 people to pass out cowboy hats  to finishers – 6:30-8:00pm)
